Plan “B”

JUNE 01, 2014

Last week Plan “A” was for Bo to do some Smallmouth Bass fly fishing with good friend Ben Levin up in north central Arkansas.  Some of the best Smallmouth creeks in the country are located here and Ben knows them probably better than anyone.  The spring creek shown here is one of Ben’s favorites that he rarely shares with anyone so it shall go unnamed in this report.  There has been a lot of rain in north Arkansas this spring so this entire adventure was a little on the iffy side.  The guys caught several nice Smallies while wade fishing but as you can tell from the photo it was raining again.  By early afternoon even this spring creek that is well up in the Ozark Mountains was beginning to rise and go off color.  Now, what to do? Plan “B”

We headed south to the upper sections of the White River and as you can see it was quite a good back up plan.  Getting in front of a three generator water release the boys pulled out the big streamer rods and put some big meat in front of some Brown Trout.  The first nice Brown just gobbled up a big Buck Rogers articulated streamer.  Now that is a face full of streamer. We stayed on the front of the water for several miles and brought a number of really nice fish to the boat.  One of the really great things about our wonderful state is the diversity of the water we have to fish.  If one plan does not work out just figure out Plan “B!”

If you want to go chase some Smallmouth Bass Ben Levin is one of the two best guides in the state.  You can contact him through his Facebook page at Ben Levin Guide Service or through Dally’s Ozark Fly Fisher in Mountain Home, Ar.  If Ben is booked up give us a call Empty Creel Fly Fishing Guides and Outfitter and we will try to get you hooked up.
